The Mission The mission of the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention and Intervention Unit is to reduce crime by providing on-going educational programs to the community. The C.P.I. Unit works to mentor, counsel, advise, and tutor kids between the ages of 6-17 in Dougherty County. This work involves assisting students with their academics  (school lessons and/or homework) or with social issues (gangs, drugs, suicide, running away, etc.) they may be struggling with at school or at home. The C.P.I. Unit teaches various character education programs to students from kindergarten to 12th grade. The goal is to educate students about the dangers and/or consequences of making bad choices when dealing with issues on dating, drugs, gangs, strangers, etc. Additionally, the C.P.I. Unit works to educate the citizens or parents of Dougherty County about the culture surrounding our children. We provide workshops about the dangers lurking around each corner, waiting to snare our children and eventually harm them. These workshops include tips for parents in dealing with issues such as gangs, drugs, internet, etc.

G.R.E.A.T.| Gang Resistance Education And Training
The C.P.I. Unit teaches G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education And Training) to sixth and seventh graders in the Dougherty County School System. G.R.E.A.T. is a13-week character based curriculum intended to assist kids in making right choices during their teen years. The G.R.E.A.T. program's goals are to educate kids about the negative consequences of joining a street gang, and also teach kids to make the correct decision when it comes to issues about school, drug, street gang, and violence. G.R.E.A.T. also has a new 6-week elementary school curriculum, which we began teaching to fourth and fifth graders in the Dougherty County School System in 2003.

C.H.A.M.P.S. | Choosing Healthy Activities & Methods Promoting Safety
A mission of the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office is to provide a program that promotes healthy and safe decisions and discourages drug and alcohol abuse. The C.H.A.M.P.S. (Choosing Healthy Activities
and Methods Promoting Safety) program allows us to help students recognize and resist the many direct and subtle pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, inhalants, or other drugs or to engage in violence. The C.H.A.M.P.S program offers preventive strategies to enhance those factors, especially bonding to the family, school, and community, which appears to foster the development of resiliency in young people. We feel having this program is a wonderful opportunity to educate your children on current issues which may harm their development and challenge their growth. The curriculum includes such classes as Alcohol, Bullying, Choices & Consequences, Cocaine, Gangs, Home Alone, Safety/Child Abduction, Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Peer Pressure, Tobacco and & Understanding and Avoiding Violence. The C.H.A.M.P.S. program is flexible in allowing the school to choose its own curriculum and it also allows the Deputy to share real life experiences and incorporate learning activities while covering the objectives of each lesson plan.
